Reiki Lineage
Dr. Mikau Usui (b 1865 – d 1926) rediscovered Reiki after a decades long search for healing techniques ascribed to ancient healers such as Buddha and Jesus. During his life he taught Reiki to over 2000 people with 16 of his students reaching the level of Reiki Master.
Chujiro Hayashi (b 1880 – d. 1941), a Buddhist and officer in the Japanese Navy learned Reiki from Dr. Usui. Hayashi set up and operated the first Reiki clinic in Tokyo. Forseeing the effects of World War II, Dr. Hayashi made Mrs. Takata, who lived in Hawaii, a Reiki Master so that the knowledge would not be lost in the war and its aftermath.
Hawayo Takata (b 1900 – d 1980) brought Reiki to the west in 1937 and in 1973 she began to travel throughout the US to teach Reiki. She continued to practice and teach until her passing in 1980, in all training 22 Reiki Masters to continue her lineage.
John Harvey Gray (b 1917 – d 2011) received his entire Reiki training from Hawayo Takata and was initiated as the third Reiki Master in the west in 1976. Fullfilling the confidence Mrs. Takata placed in him, he taught over 800 Reiki classes, taught and mentored thousands of Reiki students and gave over 10,000 private Reiki sessions. At the time of he crossed to spirit he was the longest practicing Reiki Master in the western hemisphere.
Dr. Lourdes Gray was initiated by her husband John Harvey Gray as a Reiki Master Teacher in 1996 following extensive one-on-one training in the teachings of Reiki as originally taught by Hawayo Takata. In 2008, John Harvey Gray officially designated Dr. Lourdes Gray as his sole Reiki Lineage Bearer. As a Reiki Master Teacher, she has now taught over 700 workshops and trained more than 8,000 Reiki students including many doctors, nurses, message therapists and body workers. Lourdes is currently Director of the John Harvey Gray Center for Reiki Healing in Jeffries, NH.
Lindsay has completed Reiki I, Reiki II and Reiki II Advanced under Lourdes Gray’s guidance. She has also received specific training on incorporating crystals in Reiki sessions and providing Reiki to those approaching an end of life transition.
